Sometimes you don’t need to fly around the world to a new country to try something you’ve never done or something exhilarating and fun. Sometimes, you can just drive up the road from your hometown. With that in mind, my dad, step-sister, brother & girlfriend and Dan and I booked a morning trip with Canadian Outback Rafting for the Wet & Wild Elaho Exhilarator trip.
Just north of Squamish, the Elaho river meets the Squamish river and there are sections of class 4 rapids which leads us to: white water rafting. The guides were extremely knowledgeable about the world-class scenery including old growth forests, dormant volcanoes, towering glaciers, and stunning waterfalls that cascade hundreds of feet toward the river. Given the stage three water restrictions in the greater Vancouver area, we were worried that the water levels in the river would be low – wrong; the Elaho river is glacier fed and given the recent warm weather the river was actually quite high. The conditions were perfect for rafting: high enough for excellent rapids yet low enough to still be able to go out and even swim through parts of the river.
